Some women will wear clothes, yet they will be naked. In the modern age we do not need to go far in search of examples of this today. In fact it is being filtered through the mass media, pop videos, console games as a thing to be aspired, as it sells. To the extent we see little children dressed mimicking their stars in their innocence. With sayings like "if you got it flaunt it" making it the norm and the acceptable way. However the societal/phsycological pressures this places on women is left secondary. What of the majority of women who are not size zero, or look like pictures adornned on bill boards and magazines, and can no longer flaunt it. Research hence points to many women being dissatisifed with their bodies due to these pressures (1). It seems the moral Christian value system which underpinned modesty in the UK, is slowly being unstitched with the advent of TV, and mass media.
Possibly relating this is the prophecies of the Prophet (P.B.U.H.)... Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (R.A.) relates that the messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: "I have not yet seen two groups of Jahannamis (people of hell), [because they have not emerged thus far]. ... The other group is of those women who will wear clothes, yet they will be naked. They will attempt to attract people towards themselves and they will incline towards people (men). Their heads will appear to be like a dromedary (camel). Such women will never be able to enter heaven, nay, they will not even smell the fragrance of heaven, although the fragrance of heaven will spread far. The Prophet also mentioned: "There will be in the last days of my ummah (nation), women who are dressed and undressed..." (At-Tabarani)
This referrs to women wearing tight and/or transparent clothes. Thus the objectives of clothing is defeated and they remain naked.
The Prophet said: "Belief and the sense of shame are tied together; if one is lost, the other is lost." (Al-Hakim). In line with this the khalif, ‘Umar (R.A.) once adviced not to wear "clothes that are tight-fitting and reveal the shapeliness of the body." |
